“Baby, it’s cold outside!”
This was my first really cold weather run in almost a year. I had forgotten how exhilarating it can be to run in cold weather. After three days recovering from a one-hour run on the boardwalk, I was determined to get out this morning no matter the conditions. I dressed in many layers with winter hat and gloves. I did warm-up drills and stretching indoors for 20 minutes. I ran three very pleasant, progressive miles dropping from 13 to 12 to 11 minutes as I moved on. I finished with no foot or leg issues. A gentle cool-down of jogging and walking made the entire effort almost an hour. I am still pleased with my aerobic conditioning. Measuring my heart rate after the run, it dropped from 156 down to 120 in less than two minutes: I think that’s pretty good.
Notes to self;
I am a little disappointed that it took me three days to recover from a five-mile run on the boardwalk. But I guess that is the status currently of my fitness.
I like my new routine of doing my one-legged drills, lunges and stretches indoors prior to running . Gives me 20 minutes of activity with no foot strikes and prepares me for the run as I leave the house.
I am also disappointed with my failure to keep up with my stats on a daily basis. This is something that I was able to do regularly for six months and do not want to stop.
